Digitally printed foil capsules

Digital print is a printing method where images are directly transferred from a file to the printed material via a printer. Its big benefit over existing printing methods (flexo or gravure printing) lies in the fact that no printing tools need to be made. This not only saves money for tools, but also time during setup. However, these savings are currently offset by expensive machines and colour systems – it remains to be seen how this technology will develop for our applications.

We have been looking into digital printing options for PVC, PET and polylaminate capsules for several years now. Many tests have already been carried out, but an optimal and, in particular, economical solution has been a long time coming.
As part of a customer project, a digital printing method on PVC capsules has now been realised with an external printing partner, which was able to withstand the critical tests of our production and quality team, not only in terms of print quality, but also in the further processing steps.

Further tests with different types of foil are already planned in order to be able to offer foil capsules in future, particularly for multi-colour designs, photo-realistic prints or personalisation.
